Mr. Nicholson can you please explain the question a little more
Vivian, the question has two parts and reads as follows: "Why did the Zhou feel they had to justify their overthrow of the Shang? How did the change from the Shang royal ancestral cult to the Zhou idea of the Mandate of Heaven change the nature of political legitimacy in Ancient China?" The first part asks why the Zhou believed they had to justify their power in the first place. In other words, what were the established rules of legitimacy that made the Zhou have to explain themselves. The second part of the question asks how the shift from royal ancestry to the Mandate of Heaven changed the way people looked at political legitimacy in ancient China. Look over your notes thoroughly, and you should be able to find all that you need.
