Dear all,
While your parents love to see you, they also want you to maintain your responsibilities. Your homework for the weekend is to read chapter 7-10 of Lord of the Flies. We will end our discussion of the book by Tuesday on which day you will have a written exam. Please look back at our original Lord of the Flies questions from earlier posts to guide you.
Happy Reading

An Essay on the Importance of Myth or “Poetry” in Contemporary America
Form me it started with trips each Saturday to the local movie house to see Hopalong Casidy and Gene Autrey and Roy Rodgers in action. Then, a few years later on TV there was Perry Mason and Matt Dillon (Gunsmoke). More contemporary are movies starring Superman, Iron Man and Thor. These heroes all share some common characteristics. They are chaste (even though they often have a female “best friend”. They are also strong, honest, decent. . . I could go on and on in this vein but it can all be summed up one way: they act like irreligious Puritans. And don’t think this didn’t have an effect on me and all those around me. We know what is “right” because we see it acted out in “poetry” every day all round us. Thank goodness!
Some thoughts after attending Friday's class on Lord of the Flies.
